Visiting Pilots

Visiting Pilots

Visiting Pilots: Be aware of intensive flight activity daily, including before and after the event. Be aware of various performance levels of aircraft in the air, including military jets. Performing aircraft will be arriving starting on Thursday, June 2nd, and may be in the area through Monday, June 6th. Keep your eyes open.

NOTAMS: Please note NOTAMS will be in effect closing the airspace within 5NM of MTW (Manitowoc) the following times: Friday (6/1) from 5:00 - 8:00 PM CDT, Saturday and Sunday (6/2 & 6/3) from 12:30 PM - 5:00 PM CDT. Please consult FSS for all accurate information. Please monitor AWOS 111.0 before entering the vicinity for changes.

Transient Pilots: Fly in for the morning and have breakfast, airshow starts at 1:00pm. No admission charge for those arriving by air. Enjoy the Great Pancake Breakfast, static displays, food court, vendors, and lots of fun. A heck of an airshow in the afternoon.

Showcase flights will feature local area pilots and planes at 10:30 AM, Seaplanes at 11:30 AM and Warbirds at 12:15, just before the start of the Airshow. These events and times are subject to change. If you're interested in participating, contact airshow chairman Curt Drumm at 920-482-1652 or via email at info@manitowocairshow.com .

Seaplane Pilots: Special arrangements may be made for the seaplane pilots to attend Thunder on the Lakeshore 2011. Landing can be in the Manitowoc Marina, in between the breakwaters and lighthouses on the Lake Michigan shoreline. Water is normally safe in that area. Secured beaching will be just north of the river inlet, between the YMCA and the marina. Transportation can be provided with prior arrangement. Amphib seaplanes are encouraged to land at the airport. Contact show producer Curt Drumm for more information.

Notams: Visit us for a half-day of fun, departing by noon, so you don't get "trapped" in the airspace. Or stay for the whole day, including the airshow, and you'll be able to depart immediately after the final performance. Airspace will be closed from approximately 12:30 until 4:30pm CDT for aerobatic demonstrations. No departures or arrivals will be permitted during this time period. Please check NOTAMS with FAA Flight Service Briefings. Please monitor NOTAMS on MTW's AWOS recording on VOR frequency 111.0 when arriving. They will also be posted here, as we get closer to the event, but FSS and AWOS are the official ones.

Pilots, please be aware of the two Nuclear Power Plants approx. 11 and 15 miles northeast of the MTW airport. Due to national security, please adhere to all notams and avoid "loitering" in these areas.
